Main banks in Malta:
Central Bank of Malta: It was established back in 1968 and joined the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) in 2004 and became part of the Eurosystem in 2008. This bank’s main objective is to participate in the preparation and decision-making process of the Eurosystem’s monetary policy. The Central Bank of Malta implements the monetary policy of the Eurosystem, contributes successfully to the stabilization of the financial sector of Malta, supports and promotes the growth and integration of the financial markets in Malta, serves as a government banker and offers a sufficient supply of banknotes and coins to the banking system of Malta.
Bank of Valletta: This bank was established in 1974. It became the first public company listed on the Stock Exchange of Malta in 1992. he BOV Group is a leading financial services provider in Malta, providing retail finance, investment banking, corporate banking, asset management and insurance services
APS: This Bank is a credit institution founded in 1910. APS Bank specializes in the provision of goods and services related to retail banking, including savings accounts, commercial and mortgage loans. Corporate banking and asset management are also provided by APS Bank.
HSBC: This bank has been trading in Malta since 1999. It operates a wide variety of financial services including retail and wealth investment finance, investment banking, corporate banking and markets.
BNF : This bank started its operations in Malta in 2008 ( formerly known as Banif Bank (Malta) plc). It offers personal, business and corporate services to the local communities and local SME’S
Lombard Bank: Initially established in Malta in 1955, Lombard Bank Malta plc was nationalised in 1975. A variety of retail, private and corporate banking products and services are offered by this bank.
